About the Propositions

California's June ballot includes two statewide propositions, 28 and 29, also called ballot measures. Propositions are assigned numbers by the Secretary of State, and require a simple majority to pass.

  • Prop. 28: would reduce the total amount of time a person may serve in the state legislature from 14 years to 12 years.

  • Prop. 29: would impose an additional $1.00 per pack tax on cigarettes and an equivalent tax increase on other tobacco products.
