County election offices are typically open for in-person or phone assistance on weekdays during business hours; some offer expanded hours during election times.

If you do not know which county you live in, use California State Association of Counties' Cities within Each County directory to find out.

Many counties provide online tools that let voters look up their registration status, vote-by-mail ballot status, polling place location and sample ballot. Where available these tools are linked below. In addition, the California Secretary of State offers the "My Voter Status" lookup tool where you can verify if you are registered to vote at your current address, political party preference, vote-by-mail ballot or provisional ballot status, and more, online at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov or track your ballot at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov. A statewide polling place lookup tool is also available, and caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov where voters can find early voting and mail ballot drop-off sites. The Secretary of State also maintains a roster of County Election Officials' Contact Information that includes office hours.
